Recently in Weimar, Texas, two people lost their lives in a traffic accident. This accident highlights just how dangerous highway travel can be in Texas when drivers are not paying attention.
According to reports, a flatbed truck and a commercial bus were traveling on Interstate 10 in Weimar when the accident occurred. Construction on the interstate had apparently caused traffic to slow. The flatbed truck was ahead of the bus and stopped because of the traffic jam. The Texas Department of Public Safety is still investigating the accident to determine exactly how it occurred. But, the bus driver apparently failed to realize that the traffic ahead of the bus was stopped and smashed into the back of the flatbed truck.
As a result of the collision, the bus driver and one passenger on the bus were killed. In addition to these fatalities, nearly a dozen other passengers on the bus were injured in the collision. These people were sent to local hospitals for treatment.
A fatal truck accident, like this one, can be devastating to the families involved. Texas residents may not know where to turn or how to respond following the loss of a loved one. However, the families of fatal truck accident victims should know that they have legal rights.
If one of the drivers involved in the accident was negligent, then the victims and their families may have the right to recover damages in a wrongful death suit. A wrongful death suit is a civil suit that helps to hold negligent drivers responsible for their actions. While this suit cannot heal the emotional pain caused by the accident, it can help families who have suffered financial damages from the accident.
